Vintage AMPCO 5293-L4 US Navy Portable Ship Signal Lantern

Vintage AMPCO 5293-L4 US Navy Portable Ship Signal Lantern IN GOOD CONDITION.
This lantern uses a spring loaded switch to enable the user to send flashing light coded messages.  It could also be connected to the ships communication platform in which case the flashing was remotely controlled.

The battleship gray exterior of the lantern has surface rust as shown in the photos but the interior is clean and free from battery corrosion.
The battery connection assembly and wiring are in very good condition as is the lantern's reflector.  The lens has scratches and someone has scratched some text into the plastic as shown in the photos.
Will clean up easily!!
