Description
The 9th Armored Engineer Battalion, part of the 9th Armored Division, landed in France in October 1944, and were fighting in the Battle of the Bulge by December. They participated in the battle of St. Vith, the defense of Bastogne, and then figured prominently into the capture of the Bridge at Remagen on March 7, 1945, helping to find and neutralize explosives to enable the initial crossing of the first 9 Sherman tanks over the Rhine. The 9th Armored Engineer Battalion fought through the final drive into Germany, and served in occupation duty until late 1945. This US Army WW2 9TH ARMORED ENGINEERS "RAMAGEN" .38 VICTORY REVOLVER PISTOL HOLSTER is in very good condition, with a fairly deep scratch at the upper left front, a chip and crack in the enamel of the DI on the front flap, some verdigris around the base of the brass front closure stud, and with some scattered scratching, darkening, and age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the holster is in fine shape, with no other damage to the tough brown leather construction. Most interestingly, it has been customized with the left half of the front flap neatly removed for a "quick draw", and a 9th Armored Engineer Battalion "ASISTIREMOS" enameled Distinctive Insignia tightly affixed to that flap; the holster also carries "RAMAGEN / 19 MARCH 45" lightly hand marked in black at the underside of the front flap, along with the name "J. COX". It boasts a fully functional brass stud closure front flap, sports a fully intact darkened brass wire hanger at the upper back, and is a fine example of a very rare, original US Army WW2 9TH ARMORED ENGINEERS "RAMAGEN" .38 VICTORY REVOLVER PISTOL HOLSTER.
