Description
An American did a beautiful tapestry of Aboriginal Australian ART. By Ligia A. Kauke SNAKES “Karadji” Shaman 45-3/4” X 53”. Textile piece of art. Karadji figure dancing surrounded by snakes. I think the material for his hair is wool. There is a necklace hanging down with polished bone? The reverse side is also beautiful. Piece is in excellent condition. Please zoom in on all photos to see the beautiful detail of the work. I copied something from Wikipedia that tells a bit about Kardjis aka kurdaitchas - "The kurdaitcha may be brought in to punish a guilty party by death. The word may also relate to the ritual in which the death is willed by the kurdaitcha man, known also as bone-pointing. The word may also be used by Europeans to refer to the shoes worn by the kurdaitcha, which are woven of feathers and human hair
and treated with blood." Please go to Wikipedia for more information.
